MAKE IT BEAUTIFUL | 03.08.26 | JUSTIN KENDRICK

SERMON RECAP
In this message from Ephesians 2:8–10, Pastor Justin Kendrick reminds us that salvation is not something we earn through effort, performance, or achievement—it is a gift of God’s grace. Because of Jesus, we are not defined by our accomplishments or failures. Instead, we are God’s “workmanship,” his masterpiece—his living poem—created with purpose and beauty.

The gospel frees us from the exhausting pressure to prove ourselves. Without grace, life becomes endless “brickmaking,” constantly striving to validate our worth. But through faith in Christ, we receive a new identity and a new purpose. We are loved, accepted, and made new in Christ. From that place of grace, God invites us to participate in his work in the world—taking the ordinary moments of life and making them beautiful for his glory.

SCRIPTURE
Ephesians 2:8–10, Genesis 1–2, Ephesians 2:1–7, John 17:22–23

HOW TO USE THIS DISCUSSION GUIDE
As you lead the discussion, note there is a specific framework. We believe that spiritual growth works best through a specific “working model of change” that includes three key growth areas: Head, Heart, and Hands.
HEAD: These questions help us examine what the scripture shows.
HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
HANDS: This is where you encourage a response to obey and apply what God is speaking.

Leader Reminder
The goal of this discussion is not just conversation but transformation. Encourage participation, honesty, and practical obedience.

ICE BREAKER
  • What’s something simple or ordinary that brings beauty or joy into your daily life?
  • Have you ever experienced a song, movie, or moment that deeply moved you? What made it impactful?
  • When life gets busy, what tends to drain your sense of joy or wonder the most?

HEAD
What does the scripture show?
  • In Ephesians 2:8–9, what does Paul say about how we are saved? What does this reveal about grace?
  • Verse 10 describes believers as God’s “workmanship.” What was Paul conveying by this image?
  • According to verse 10, what role do “good works” play in the life of someone who has received God’s grace?

HEART
What do we believe?
  • Why do you think it’s so difficult for people to believe that they are already fully loved and accepted by God through Christ?
  • The sermon contrasts “making bricks” (trying to prove your worth) with “making art” (living from grace as a ‘co-creator’ with Him). Which one describes you in your life right now? Why?
  • How does understanding that you are God’s “masterpiece” reshape how you see your identity and purpose?

HANDS

  • What is one area of your daily life where God might be inviting you to “make it beautiful” this week?
  • What do you need from the group right now—prayer, encouragement, wisdom, or accountability?

SHARE: MISSION

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to renew our sense of wonder, joy, and purpose in Christ.
