Text: 2 Timothy 3:10-17
1. In 1996, R. Kelly wrote a song called “I believe I can fly.” Society today still believes “You can be whatever you want to be.” When you were a kid, what did you believe you could be?
2. What restrictions drive you crazy, but you know that they’re good for you? (Example: speed limits) How does your identity in Christ and following the "restrictions" of God's way of living, outlined in the Bible, bring freedom?
3. Freedom from stress/pressures, contentment with what you have and who you are, peace in your heart and mind, and salvation from sin are found in the Bible. Which do you need most right now? Why?
4. In 2 Timothy 3:14-15, Paul told Timothy to “continue in” God’s Word. To be a person of the book requires continuing in it every day. Look up and read 2 Timothy 2:15. What commitment to study God's Word do you currently have and what greater commitment are you challenged to make today? What could you sacrifice to spend more time in the most important book in history?
As a group, take some time to pray specific verses over the group that apply to the things that have been shared. Also, take your personal commitments to be a person of the Book to Him in prayer and ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance, understanding, and conviction as you read it.
For Further Study: Read Psalm 119:97-112 and reflect on the writer's heart towards God's Word. How does it compare to yours? What could you do to develop a heart like his towards God's Word?
